My most recent concept shoot involved a 2015 Ford Focus ST and an amazing all-girl team. We met early one Tuesday morning and road tripped in the ST towards the farmlands.
I wanted to combine fashion with cars in this shoot and aimed to introduce spring/summer in a not-so-obvious way so, like the thousands of other photographers in Cape Town, we set out to the farmlands and went looking for a bright yellow canola field.
I wanted to have the flowers in my images but in a subtle way, so you will notice that we shot using the flowers as a backdrop in the distance rather than the general “in-the-flowers” concept.
Michelle, our model, was such a good sport. She is a true professional when it comes to shooting and I knew exactly what shots I wanted to achieve so we shot quickly and moved on to the next outfits that Style by Loren had set for us. Sam Ellenberger, our makeup artist, kept Michelle’s makeup very natural but slightly smokey eyed to create a simple Road Trip look with a little bit of “bad-ass” sneaking through.
The ladies captured my idea perfectly and when it comes to these shoots I always like to give each person freedom to express themselves. I enjoy allowing everyone to have their own creative input and seeing what results.
The concept of the shoot was to capture a fast car loving, adventurous, road tripping model who took a drive out to enjoy the start of spring. We wanted to show the car’s features as well as the fashion so I challenged myself to keep both subjects balanced and equally represented in this shoot.
I really enjoyed capturing these images and already have my next idea lined up!
